Who is he, anyway?
Jack Howe is a freelance journalist, writer, and expansive thinker who’s dedicated to teasing out the nuances and contradictions inherent in many of the political and social debates of our time and to shining a light on overlooked stories, characters, and perspectives.
From 2018 to 2021 he served an Intelligence Analyst for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), attached to U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) in Honolulu, Hawaii. There he oversaw a strategic portfolio and team responsible for producing hard-hitting analysis for the INDOPACOM Commander, the Pentagon, U.S. diplomats, and Intelligence Community leadership. Before that, he played the D.C. circuit, taking up a meager analytic job at a middling, yet connected, consulting firm as he—like so many idealistic college grads—sought to land a good bureaucrat job at a well-known American institution. He graduated from Mercyhurst University in 2017, receiving a BA in Intelligence Studies and minors in Arab/Islamic Studies and Religious Studies.
He grew up in Southern California to parents whose politics were diametrically opposed and resistant to modification. Negotiating this dynamic at the dinner table gave him his first foray into the intellectually constricting nature of rigid ideology, teams, labels, and perceived identities.
